# App Lock

> Protect DueZen with Face ID, Touch ID, a fingerprint, or a 4-digit PIN, and understand what happens if you forget it.

App Lock adds an authentication gate in front of the app, separate from your device passcode.

## Turn on App Lock

Go to **Settings → App Lock** and toggle it on. DueZen prompts you to authenticate with your device's Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint scanner. If your device does not support biometrics, or you have disabled them system-wide, you can set a 4-digit PIN instead.

* Primary method: biometrics
* Fallback: 4-digit PIN
* Authentication is required on launch and after extended backgrounding
* Unlock once and you are in for the session

## What App Lock protects

App Lock gates the entire interface. Anyone who picks up your unlocked phone and opens DueZen sees only the lock screen — no bills, no balances, no payment history.

Your data is already stored in encrypted device storage. App Lock adds a second layer on top, so unlocking the phone alone is not enough to see DueZen. That matters most on shared devices, or when you hand your phone to someone for something else.

* All screens are gated: Dashboard, Directory, Fund Flow, Settings
* Notifications still arrive; their content visibility follows your operating system settings

<Tip>
  If you glance at your dashboard several times a day, biometrics keeps the friction near zero. A PIN adds a few seconds every time.
</Tip>

## Turn it off, or recover access

To disable App Lock, open **Settings → App Lock** — you will be asked to authenticate first — and toggle it off. The PIN is cleared and the lock screen stops appearing.

Biometrics can be re-enrolled from the App Lock screen at any time.

<Warning>
  If you forget your PIN **and** biometrics stop working — a new phone, a newly enrolled face — the only way back in is to uninstall and reinstall the app, which clears all local data. DueZen stores nothing on a server, so no one, including the DueZen team, can recover a forgotten PIN.

  Export your data periodically if you rely on App Lock. See [Export and archiving](/advanced/export-and-archiving).
</Warning>
