# Privacy and your data

> DueZen requires no bank login and stores your data in encrypted device storage. What that means in practice, and what it costs you.

DueZen was built so you never have to share banking credentials to track your finances.

* No bank logins and no account linking
* No data leaves your device unless you export it yourself
* Data is stored in encrypted device storage using a secure on-device key

## What this means in practice

Because DueZen has no server-side copy of your data, a few things follow directly from that design.

    Nothing is imported from a bank feed. Adding a bill takes seconds thanks to auto-fill, but the first setup is your work. See [Add your first item](/getting-started/add-your-first-item).

    Losing or wiping the device loses the data. Exporting a CSV periodically is the only way to keep a copy. See [Export and archiving](/advanced/export-and-archiving).

    If you use App Lock and lose both your PIN and biometrics, reinstalling is the only path back in, and it clears local data. See [App Lock](/advanced/app-lock).

    Balances and spending totals come from what you enter and mark paid, not from a live account balance.

<Warning>
  The absence of cloud backup is the one real trade-off in this design. If your records matter to you, export a CSV on a schedule you will actually keep — quarterly is enough for most people.

## Export your data

You can take everything with you at any time. **Settings → Export Data** produces a CSV covering the date range you choose, and hands it to the system share sheet so you can save or send it wherever you like.
